Salivary Gland Tumour Surgery in Istanbul

A swelling in front of the ear or under the jaw is often a salivary gland tumour. Most are benign; all deserve a careful answer.

What salivary gland tumours are

The parotid glands in front of the ears, the glands under the jaw and many smaller glands can all develop tumours. The majority are benign, but some are not, and even benign tumours grow. An ultrasound and often a needle biopsy establish what the swelling is.

How surgery is done

The facial nerve — the nerve that moves your face — passes directly through the parotid gland, so this surgery is about removing the tumour while preserving the nerve. Prof. Dr. Hafız plans and performs the operation himself, explains the findings and the pathology afterwards, and follows your recovery personally.

Is a lump in front of the ear serious?

Usually it is a benign parotid tumour — but it needs an ultrasound and examination to be sure, and most benign tumours are still removed because they keep growing.

Is the facial nerve at risk?

The operation is designed around protecting it. Experience with this exact anatomy is what a patient should look for in a surgeon, and it has been part of Prof. Dr. Hafız's practice for decades.

Will there be a visible scar?

The cut is placed in natural skin lines near the ear and usually fades well. Prof. Dr. Hafız will show you where it would run before you decide.
