Neck Dissection & Neck Masses in Istanbul
A lump in the neck has many possible causes. Finding the right one, quickly, is what matters.
Neck lumps and swellings
Swollen lymph nodes, thyroid swellings, salivary gland tumours, congenital cysts: the neck gathers many structures into a small space. A new lump that persists beyond a few weeks deserves examination — with ultrasound and, where needed, a needle biopsy — rather than waiting.
What a neck dissection is
When cancer involves or may involve the lymph nodes of the neck, removing the affected groups of nodes is called a neck dissection. It is frequently part of head and neck cancer treatment, and it is precise, anatomical surgery: nerves, vessels and muscles are identified and preserved wherever the disease allows. Prof. Dr. Hafız has performed this surgery throughout his career and explains beforehand exactly what will be removed and why.
