Transoral Laser Surgery in Istanbul

For selected tumours of the larynx and throat, surgery can pass through the mouth — no external cut, and as much of the voice box preserved as possible.

What it is

Transoral laser surgery removes tumours of the larynx and throat through the mouth, under general anaesthesia, using a microscope and a laser. There is no cut in the neck. For suitable early tumours it can treat the cancer while preserving the structures around it.

Is it an option for you?

Suitability depends on the tumour's size, its exact position and what the examination shows. Is laser surgery safer than open surgery?

For the right tumour, it avoids an external cut and spares more tissue. For the wrong tumour, it is not enough. The honest answer depends on examination, which is what the consultation is for.

Will my voice recover afterwards?

Voice results depend on how much of the vocal cord is involved. Many patients keep a very usable voice. Prof. Dr. Hafız explains the expected outcome for your exact case first.

How long is the hospital stay?

Usually shorter than for open surgery, and this is discussed when planning, together with what recovery at home looks like.
